Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek presents: LeAnn Rimes
Posted by: | CommentsLeAnn Rimes in concert at the Vilar Center for the Performing Arts in Beaver Creek, Colorado on January 21, 2009
Graciously underwritten by Kristen & Bob Gary and Anonymous
Teenage sensation turned superstar
With two Grammy Awards already under her belt, including the first Best New Artist accolade ever won by a country artist, LeAnn Rimes has proven to be a powerful force on the music scene – and she’s not yet 30 years old. She has sold more than 37 million records, won an American Music Award, three Academy of Country Music honors and 12 Billboard Awards. Rimes has scored several hit singles, among them “One Way Ticket,” “I Need You,” “Nothin’ Bout Love Makes Sense,” “Probably Wouldn’t Be This Way,” “Can’t Fight the Moonlight” and “How Do I Live,” which was the longest running single ever on the Billboard Hot 100, spending a record-setting 69 weeks on the chart.
Rimes started singing before the age of two and was only eight years old when she appeared on Star Search. In 1991 (before the age of 11), she released her first album, Everybody’s Sweetheart on a small independent label. Her career took off with the release of the album Blue in 1996. Blue debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold 123,000 copies in its first week. At 13, Rimes was a teenage country star.
Rimes’s latest release, Family, has been met with rave critical praise and has elevated her reputation in country and pop. The album marks the first time Rimes has written or co-written every song, and the heartfelt new tracks are proof of her strong message. “Growing up suits LeAnn Rimes,” wrote the Boston Globe. “On Family, she’s a lot country and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll, pop, blues and all herself.”

In 2003, Mayfield was appointed the Cultural Ambassador of the City of New Orleans by the United States government.
Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra made history on November 17, 2005, just after Hurricane Katrina, when they symbolically reopened the city of New Orleans with All the Saints At Christ Church Cathedral.

A celebration of the past, present and future of jazz.
Famed Blue Note Records, jazz’s premier label, celebrates 70 years of what was, is and will be, with an all-star band of today’s finest musicians performing this rich catalog of music. Since 1939, Blue Note has introduced audiences to jazz’s biggest legends including John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Norah Jones.
This tour unites Music Director and pianist Bill Charlap with tenor saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, Peter Bernstein on guitar, drummer Lewis Nash, Nicholas Payton on trumpet, Peter Washington on bass and Steve Wilson on alto sax. The group will explore classic tunes by Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock, Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter and many others.
Alfred Lion launched Blue Note Records in 1939. At the end of that year, Lion’s childhood friend Francis Wolff caught the last boat out of Nazi-controlled Germany bound for America, found employment at a photographic studio and joined forces with Lion at night to continue building Blue Note Records. Together, for the next 30 years, they recorded the greatest artists in jazz. Blue Note’s catalog of music features legendary performances and “must-have” releases that marked the history of jazz.
This all-star tour is a celebration of 70 years of Blue Note Records.
